Mental Health Occupational Therapy Service for Children & Adolescents
Why Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy aims to support young people to thrive in their day-to-day life by enhancing participation in meaningful daily activities. In our daily lives, we engage in a wide range of occupations that include self-care, leisure, and productivity. Occupational therapists explore these aspects of a young person’s life to identify any challenges and offer support. We consider how the daily activities of the young person are impacting their overall well being and make suggestions based on their goals. Occupational Therapy places emphasis on the benefits of ‘doing’ i.e. how participation in a meaningful activity can support our mental health.
An Occupational Assessment involves consideration of the person i.e. their unique skills, strengths and values, the environment i.e. the sensory, physical and social environment , and their daily occupations. Based on this information, individualised goals are created with the young person, which may involve parent and school collaboration.
